The atomic bomb
Hiroshima
Hiroshima was a manufacturing center about 500 miles away from Tokyo. It was the first place ever to be hit by an atomic bomb. The Us decided that to end to the war they needed to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It was dropped on August 6, 1945. The bomb destroyed 90% of the city, and killed around 80,000 people. It was a huge disaster.
Nagasaki
Nagasaki was the second target or the atomic bomb. After bombing Hiroshima, Japan had not yet surrendered. The US decided to send another bomb. This bomb was heavier and bigger than the first, and was nicknamed "Fat Man". Since Nagasaki was located near mountains, the explosion was not as hard as it should have been only damaging 2.6 square miles of land. The second bombing of Japan made them surrender and the war was over.
